Recapture The Past - Throwsticks.com

Our wasp stung, boomerang slung hero, Kimberley, is back! The year is 1907 and the time on the bell is 2:22, just 4 years after the invention of the airplane. Join him on his quest as he explores a sacred earth temple to discover an ancient hunting wing capable of gravity defying, level flights out to nearly 100 meters, yet little known by moderns. His goal is to bring this lost technology out into the light of a new age before the glorious past it came from is forgotten forever.... Throwsticks date back to ancient peoples on at least 5 continents. Yet as mankind has moved into the modern age and all of the new confinements imposed to obtain its ways, he has been prone to forget his hunter/gatherer roots of flight, freedom, and self sufficiency. Rediscovering the true genius and wisdom of those forgotten ages and the people who stood tall and carried the human race through them is thrilling. Sometimes the best way to see forward is to look back. Our best regards to the indigenous and non indigenous peoples around the world who still pursue our ancestor's paths, who actively seek to learn earth skills and re-kindle their instincts. Special regards to the Aboriginal peoples of Australia who's ancestral genius developed the boomerang to the highest form seen anywhere in history that we know, and who's ancient cultures have recently touched the ones now dominant, through much pain. Another reminder we must recapture the past rather than attack it.Sports

Be A Hero! (A Father's Day Message From Throwsticks.com)

Every morning the Sun rises, giving of its flaming energy to power all life on our planet before disappearing in a blaze of glory each evening, leaving us in reminiscence of the previous day. All life here comes from the energy of the Sun and is derived from it. All life cycles are tied to it completely, and it is the source of all energy in our world. The Seasons are a larger cycle of this same pattern. People for generations instinctively felt that in this pattern of the Sun's rising and dying, there was a pattern of life and death itself for each one of us. They formed monuments to it and internalized its wisdom. The wisdom of life and of death, and of new life again. Man is an animal of fire. We make wishes on flames, and are hypnotized by them to tell our stories as we gather around them in the evening. We use flames to prepare our food, to manage our lands, and heat our homes. In each one of us burns a flame to live and love. To carry out on a smaller scale what the flame of the Sun does on the larger scale. To be the Sun for those who need our guiding light, and especially for our children. To be a leader by providing the ingredients and of life and direction on how to blaze bright and die in full glory. Days are of duration and then the night comes after the sunset. Some seasons are bright and others dark. There is a season to be with your children and to give them all you can, because like days and seasons, they grow up and we grow old. When the sun sets in your life, look back and know that you made the most of the days you lived and passed on the glory to those who are meant to rise after you're gone and your sunset leaves them with memories only. Be a Hero to your kids! Happy Father's Day! Benjamin Scott https://www.Throwsticks.comSports

Don't Try This At Home - How Tough Are Polycarbonate Throwsticks?

This novel, cringe worthy and extremely boring video was recorded in one take. It features the destruction of a granite boulder by the use of a polycarbonate throwstick. The boulder aside, no throwsticks were apparently harmed in the production of this video, although the thrower got very tired.... Spoiler alert: After more throws than we want to go back and count, the stick didn't ever break.... If you have the patience to do the count for us, please leave the number in the comments section below. But how tough are polycarbonate throwsticks? After making and selling many hundreds of them internationally since 2017, with many subject to significant abuse, only a few have been reported broken in that time. Every piece of polycarbonate is unique. We've had reports of a few sticks breaking when coming into sharp contact with hardwood trees, where the edge is captured and stopped abruptly at whatever the sweet spot is that over stresses the material for a given mass distribution. Also, sub freezing temperatures can make polycarbonate more fragile than otherwise and make breaks more common when throwing in that weather. Although the stick in this video didn't shatter, we have been able to shatter one particular stick in other tests in as few as 11 throws in extreme conditions. These tests were conducted as hard as we could throw against large boulders, at point blank range. In any case the durability results are extremely impressive. The bottom line is that polycarbonate throwsticks are very durable. In spite of this they can possibly break and we don't warrant that they won't or encourage our customers to abuse them so that they would. Don't try this at home. Be safe, sane, and respectful of your throwstick. Throw at softer targets. But whatever you do, have fun!! With a product this durable, it's meant to be thrown!Sports

The Kimberley Stinger - "Fighting Boomerang"

Join our gun slung, wasp stung hero, "Kimberley," as he regains his composure one throw at a time, shortly after being attacked by a sand wasp (true story). He re-establishes his place at the top of the food chain in style, and demos Throwsticks.com's newest back woods survival multi-tool in the process. Benjamin Scott from Throwsticks.com was actually stung on his throwing hand between shots, in the first scene filmed. This set the tone of the production. You can hear one of the other attacking insects in the first scene where the camera also adds mysterious sound effects of its own. Some things are just meant to be.... 1 large watermelon, 12 cans of cheap soda, and 2 sand wasps were definitely harmed during the filming of this production.... Hunting Boomerang - Extreme Range - The Aboriginal Karli

Brought to you by www.Throwsticks.com - The Long Range Straight Flying Boomerang known as the "Karli" in the Warlpiri language. Historically it was made with stone tools in the central desert region of the N.T. Australia. We produce this model for sale now using tough modern materials and expert tuning. Originating from the Aboriginal peoples of the Central Desert of Australia. Karli were used to hunt game out past 60 meters. The Aborigines did not primarily use returning boomerangs to hunt, except maybe as a distraction, with some notable exceptions. Predominantly they used straight flying boomerangs like the one shown here. Long range straight flight target throws demonstrated by Benjamin Scott, at ranges out to 90 meters in this video. For more info visit us at: Throwsticks.com (Update: Aug 17th. I just checked my exact distance on Google Earth to be 83 meters for the long throw recorded in this video. I apologize for my range error here. I was very confident at the time of recording, but I was conflating yards with meters too much here. Future videos will be checked against Google Earth before figures are posted. The maximum straight range of this karli has been tested to be about 110 meters to 120 meters) (Update: June 8th, 2017. I have now made throwsticks which look similar to this one but weigh more and have straight flight ranges out to 133 meters. I am continuing to pursue research and extend these ranges further. Future videos are ahead.)Sports

In essence, it is a stave or wooden club thrown as a projectile to hunt small game such as rabbits or waterfowl. In flight, it rotates rapidly, hitting the target with one of the ends, maiming or killing it. One difference between a throwing stick and a javelin is in their shapes and lengths. A javelin is almost always a straight shaft with either a pointed tip or a spearhead attached to the front end. A throwing stick can be straight like a pointed wooden shaft or curved like the boomerang, and is much shorter than the javelin. It became obsolete as slings and bows became more prevalent, except for on the Australian continent, where it was developed to a high technology. Throwing sticks shaped like returning boomerangs are designed to fly straight to a target at long ranges. Their surfaces are shaped as airfoils. When tuned correctly they do not exhibit curved flight, but rather they fly on an extended straight flight path. Straight flight ranges greater than 100 meters distance have been reported by historical sources as well as in recent research. There were some throwing sticks placed in the tombs of pharaohs. 2016 - 04 - 03 (historic valaris made of wood, metal, ivory, here : http://experimental-prehistory.blogspot.fr/2015/01/traditional-boomerangs-in-india.html) (For those who believe only in metal valaris, take also a look at 2 of Pandiya Rajan's video : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jigMVd3lZAE and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iX-BUDGfbrA) Wikipedia says : "A crash test is a form of destructive testing usually performed in order to ensure safe design [...]". In the case of non return boomerangs, crash test may be performed to ensure resilient design :-) After taking another look at examples of Valari in http://experimental-prehistory.blogspot.fr/2015/01/traditional-boomerangs-in-india.html, it seems clear that I should have made a thicker arm (the one ended with the knob) and probably shorter also. But I'm still wondering whether it is only possible to make a resilient Valari. Their shape generally impose some cutting against the wood fibers. (because we'll never find a perfectly shaped branch or root). This problem doesn't exist with sufficiently primitive non-return boomerangs : you simply adopt the exact profile of any suitable branch you can find. Kylie Golf
The Spirit Of Kylie Golf - The Maverick And The Mini-7

And introduction to Kylie Golf brought to you by https://www.Throwsticks.com Featuring "The Maverick" And "The Mini 7" - Kylie Golf Sticks! Kylie Golf is an alternative sport invented in the 1990's in Ohio, by famed boomerang world champion, Gary Broadbent, to be played at disc golf courses. Kylies are versatile tools for this job and provide an easier, minimalist alternative to discs. Less power is needed to throw kylies far than with discs, and only two sticks can do a wide range of maneuvers, useful on the course in a variety of situations. This is how the story goes.... Once upon a time, mankind was uncivilized.... Their sport was life and death as it involved utilizing clubs to strike each other on the skull, with the heaviest hitter winning the contest and the loser thrown into a hole in the ground. As "civilization" slowly but surely arose, golf did too, and man went from deploying their clubs against each other's skulls, to striking small white balls as a symbolic surrogate. This satisfying sport served to sufficiently placate mankind's violence on weekends, so that they could endure the enslavement of their work week in between. In this way civilization continued unabated. Fast forward several hundred years until the time when apple pie was a staple of man's diet, and contact with aliens felt immanent. At this time, mankind flattened their golf balls into saucers and evolved golf into a sport played with flying discs, which they threw forcefully against their chains, but which then dropped into cages thereafter. Striking these chains produced satisfying music for man's ears, again helping him to endure his work week, yet the personal empowerment of the ancient war clubs had been long forgotten.... This state of affairs continued until the mid 1990's when a revolutionary spirit arose in a fiery Irish and Italian disc golf and boomerang thrower. "The Boomerang Man," Gary Broadbent invented a new sport, played at disc golf courses, which brought the ancient clubs back into the game, striking the chains, and escaping the confinements of the cages. Golf had come "full swing" and the clubs were back! "Kylie Golf" was born! "The Spirit Of Kylie Golf" is a fun celebration of this history, the symbolism of our sports and of the ultimate rule of the sport of life. "Winners win by finding clever ways to make new rules, not by following those of others!" We hope to inspire you to "think outside" where no box, cage or basket is necessary. It's a thrilling way to play. Join the ranks of kylie golf players everywhere! Take up the ancient clubs and play with your disc golf friends or against others using kylies as well. In either case, listen for that music and awaken the ancient spirit of kylie golf yet again!! And if you do play with a disc golfer, the same rules apply to them. The cage is irrelevant to both players for that match. If you don't have a disc golf course available near you, play with natural targets and features of the woods, terrain, or anywhere suitable.... Go primitive, go minimalist, go Kylie Golf!!Sports

A simple introduction to Kylie Golf. It is played like Disc Golf. We use Kylies or specialized throw sticks instead of Disc. Some of the Aboriginal people of Australia are masters of the Kylie with great accuracy. Before the bow and arrow just about everyone threw a throw stick to kill game. These throw sticks are aerodynamically mastered for optimum flight. Gary Broadbent Kylies http://www.broadbentboomerangs.com/ Benjamin Scott Kylies: https://youtu.be/jPiT7RFsfwYEducation

How to Make a Rabbit Stick or Primitive Throw Stick

This is a "How To" video on MY method of rabbit stick or primitive throw stick fabrication. This is a demonstration of a mid-range and mid-use stick being created for survival and primitive living. Rabbit sticks have been used by all different cultures thorough time and geography. The land and the individual creator determine the style of stick. MY style is based of resources and the tight, rocky forests of the Rocky Mountains. Quick Rabbit Sticks can be created by picking up a stick and just giving it a toss at an intended target. More aerodynamic and long term rabbit sticks require much more time and tools to create. The stick demonstrated in this video is a "go-between" quick stick and a long term hunting rabbit stick. Some rabbit sticks can fly in excess of 200 yards, while others can fly just a few feet. This is based on design and resources. Kylie Throws In The Forest

The Kylie is an ancient hunting tool dating back for thousands of years of human history. In refined form they have been reported to fly straight, almost like a laser beam, for 200+ meters. The kylie most famously originates with the Aborigines in Australia who were able to hunt Emu at ranges of up to 40-60+ meters with it, as well as other smaller game. For them it was also a multi-tool which they would use as a club, to clear brush, to dig, to start friction fires, as a percussion musical instrument, etc.... As mentioned above, depending on the weight, tuning and design, the kylie can fly a distance beyond the practical hunting range, but the accuracy limitations of the thrower, and the time it takes to get to the target, begin to limit it's effectiveness as a hunting weapon beyond the above distances. If a kylie goes too far, it is easily lost. I paint mine in high contrast colors to avoid that very thing happening. These throwing sticks appear to have also been found in many other ancient civilizations in various forms. This is amazing for ancient man, as the carving of the airfoil, and fine tuning of these instruments is really a precise and complex science! Amazingly, the tuning of the airfoil is more complex than that of an airplane, which always presents the front of it's wings to the airflow, and which may be adjusted in flight by the pilot. The kylie, by contrast, rotates while moving forward at the same time, presenting all sides of it's wings to the airflow, with more airflow continuously moving over the outside wing surface. It has to function in balance while flying out in a perfectly straight path, as it continuously rotates rapidly around it's center of mass. And although unpiloted, as the kylie looses energy to frictional forces over the distance it covers, it must also automatically compensate for this loss of energy by adjusting it's pitch, or angle of attack, to the precise amount necessary to increase lift to maintain the straight flight path of which it is characteristic. See "Boomerang Aerodynamics And Motion" by Felix Hess, for more info. As a Californian myself I'm interested in the local history of these amazing tools. In Southern California, in the Los Angeles basin, and further South into Baja California, the same type of hunting sticks were being made in the old days by many Native American tribes. They were said to by one to be made of tuff wood in the shape of a well balanced cutlass, and that they were used for war, as well as for the hunting of hares, deer coyotes, etc.... It's taken me a lot of study to be able to have the success I'm having with my modern reproductions, which are made of high quality polycarbonate plastic, of similar weight to oak. This material is very tuff and excellent for kylie making. I have also made them from hard wood. An appropriately bent branch must be used, since the grain of the wood must be continuous with the instrument to avoid breakage under the stress of hard use. The throws in this video are estimated to be at ranges between 40 and 65 meters. The kylie used weighs 330 grams and is 67 cm in length. It is similar in design, weight, and length, to those used by the Australian Aborigines in the Central Desert of Australia. It's one among several successful designs which I have made to reproduce the originals. You may contact me for through my website: Whipartist.com if you want more information on these fascinating tools. Btw, I apologize for the video quality. I didn't know we were on the wrong setting until I got home from our trip. I saved the clearest looking throw for last in the video.Sports

Heavy bent sticks flying past the camera at around 60mph and striking targets with force from 40-70 yards away! I make these to fly straight flight paths out to ranges of about 60-80 yards and more. Maximal flight distance is further still if not aiming at a target.Sports

Valari Crash Test - South indian non return boomerang #4 - #வளரி
