Description

We designed "The Karli" model as a fun, light weight distance achiever. Based in the designs of some of the shorter and lighter weight central desert throwsticks that were used historically for small game, we have developed something which is optimized for long range sport oriented throwers and feels pleasant to throw at high speeds. It prefers a fast, snappy release and good spin to stabilize the ultra flat, long range flights. This makes it is a good instructor on proper technique and once mastered it is an easy and beautiful flyer. The karli model is less head wind tolerant than some of the other models due to the more shallow bend in the elbow, but it takes a lot of abuse and flies beautifully. Be careful you don't lose it in the distance....

Because of its smaller size, lighter weight and the "soft tuned" option, the Soft Tuned Karli Model is more accessible to smaller or weaker individuals as well. The soft tune option shortens the overall range of the throwstick, while at the same time reducing the initial velocity needed to achieve a straight flight path. We soft tune these throwsticks, usually at 55 meters, making them the easiest and most accessible throwsticks in our lineup, ideal for smaller, younger, older, disabled, or more casual throwers who are working in smaller areas. Maximum range is much less than on the hard tuned throwsticks, and when thrown too hard, a soft tuned throwstick will climb above target rather than flying straight. Only a good toss is needed for straight flights when soft tuned. Ideal for smaller areas or casual target practice competitions. Soft tuned karli model throwsticks are not stocked. They are made to order and we prefer to correspond with the customer before production so we can be sure to meet your unique needs as best as we can.

Paint Info

Color Options

Utilize the picture on the left to choose your paint pattern, then choose a base color and a dot color to create variations.

Our dot art is often inspired by indigenous designs, but should not be considered authentic. All throwsticks are hand painted as pieces of art and thus variations, imperfections and artistic expressions will sometimes occur. Consider your throwstick's paint job to be unique, as each one is done by hand.

Bright or high contrast base colors help to prevent a throwstick from being lost at extreme distances, but they show wear and scratches much more quickly than the more subdued colors.

Our painted throwsticks are made from high impact polycarbonate, an extremely tough but translucent material. Light color choices such as orange may show a faint glow through them if held up to a bright light source. Throwsticks take a lot of abuse and paint may slowly fade off around the edges from repeated abrasive contact with soil or rocks. Paint wear around the edges where the throwstick is gripped by the hand may also occur, so for a smoother, more precise release, we ship our throwsticks with the paint on the handle edges lightly sanded off.

Reviews

"As someone who has extensive knowledge in primitive technologies, and cultural anthropology, I highly recommend Ben's throw sticks! I have made many in the past and usually get about 60 - 70 yards. When throwing the Karli model, I was absolutely blown away by its performance. This stick is scary good and reaches distances over 100 yards! Incredible! We here at Primitive Lifeways highly endorse and recommend Ben's throwing sticks."

This stick is perfect Ben. You have no idea how excited I was to get this rabbit. I knew which way he was going to run so I threw it in front of him and hit him on the run. The stick hit him with so much power. It was so awesome! Thanks for making me such an awesome throw stick!

I recently purchased every item on the Throwsticks.com product range and couldn't be any happier. Ben and Carol were both a pleasure to deal and made everything very easy for the delivery of my order to Australia. The products themselves are exceptional in quality and craftsmanship and very professionally made. They all perform exactly as they were intended and I have had many enjoyable hours of throwing with many more to come!

You have delivered as promised. I am having a great time with my Karli's! I am in awe of the distance, trajectory and power delivered by your tuned throwing sticks. I keep throwing them because each flight is unique and I can't stop watching! My old maple stick will go on the wall as a decoration. I have referred back to your flight school several times and it has been a big help in throwing. Thank you for that.

"As a lifelong primitive technologist, I was aware of the place of the throwing stick in history. Working in Museum Anthropology for the last 25 years allowed me to see original artifacts from around the world including ethnographic throwing sticks from the American Southwest and Australia. It wasn't until I discovered the work being done by Throwsticks.com, that this technology came alive! No longer a dusty old museum artifact behind closed doors, the throwing stick is now a magical work of art and science. Finally, this technology is getting the spotlight and recognition it deserves for its important role in human history. Now all people have access to this part of our shared heritage. Thanks Throwsticks.com, for bringing this skill back into the light!"
